Pittsburgh Steelers defensive backs Jalen Elliott and Darius Rush have cleared waivers after being released by the team on Tuesday.

Elliott and Rush were placed on waivers on Tuesday as part of a large bunch of transactions for the Steelers. They cleared waivers on Wednesday, as noted by the NFL transactions report.

After clearing waivers, the players are free to sign with any team’s active roster or practice squad. The Steelers do not currently have any open spots on their practice squad.

Elliott, 26, played in two games for the Steelers this season, exclusively on special teams. The Notre Dame alum first played in the NFL in 2021 for the Detroit Lions and had bounced around to several teams before first joining the club during training camp last season.

Elliott has had a whirlwind Steelers career. After being cut after training camp last August, he had two stints with the Steelers practice squad in 2023. Elliott was re-signed for 2024, but was cut in July after minicamp. Midway through training camp, he was brought back again, and was a surprising choice to make the club’s initial 53-man roster.

Rush is a promising young cornerback that has not been able to find an NFL role, despite his talent. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound cornerback was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but was cut by the Indianapolis Colts coming out of his first training camp.

Rush caught on with the Steelers last October and played three games for the team in 2023. He appeared poised to take a step forward in 2024, but was unable to secure a special teams role, with the Steelers instead opting to bring back veteran backup and special teamer James Pierre.
