Steelers RB Max Borghi

Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Max Borghi is being waived by the Saint Louis Battlehawks after he declared his intentions to not play in the United Football League this season.

Borghi, 24, had previously spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos after going undrafted out of Washington State in the 2022 NFL Draft. He joined the Steelers during the 2022 run-up to the season, working to gain a roster spot during the later stages of training camp, but he failed to make the practice squad or the final roster.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Borghi played three full seasons with Washington State, rushing for 2,158 yards and 32 touchdowns. He spent two seasons as the Cougars’ primary starting running back in 2019 and 2021. He missed all but one game of the 2020 season with a back injury. As a senior in 2021, Borghi rushed 160 times for 880 yards for a 5.5 yards per carry average and 12 touchdowns. He also caught 16 passes for 156 yards.

Last season, Borghi played in the XFL, but decided not to do so again this season when it merged into the UFL. Rosters have condensed down with the USFL and XFL merger, and other former Pittsburgh Steelers have landed with the Battlehawks, including former running back Mataeo Durant.
