With the Pittsburgh Steelers struggling to muster anything against the Baltimore Ravens defense, George Pickens put the team on his back and caught a 41-yard game-winning touchdown to put Pittsburgh up 14-10 with 1:17 remaining. Chris Boswell nailed a 42-yard field goal to put the Steelers up 17-10 following T.J. Watt’s fumble recovery off Alex Highsmith’s strip/sack. The Ravens got the ball back with 49 seconds but were unable to tie the game.

Pickens had a 21-yard catch on third-and-4 two plays prior to his 41-yard score. On the touchdown, Pickens burned All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey down the right sideline. The Ravens were in zero coverage and Pickett and Pickens made them pay.

George Pickens finished the game with six receptions for a career-high 130 yards (21.7 average) and a touchdown. He had several contested catches on back-shoulder fades throughout the game. He also caught a pass over the middle in traffic for a first down and a 16-yard run off an end-around that led to a field goal. All in all, Pickens showed out on Sunday.

Pickett spoke with Evan Washburn of CBS after the game about the 41-yard touchdown pass to Pickens.

“They were going zero, they heated up the Colts a bunch. I don’t think they handled it as well, so I wanted to make sure we handled it,” Pickett said. “They gave it to us once earlier and I got hit on it. So in clutch moments like this, felt they were going to come back to it. Got it adjusted, George won on his route and it was a big play for us.”

Humphrey, who underwent foot surgery in August, made his season debut on Sunday. Pickens and Humphrey both went to Hoover High School in Alabama, but not at the same time. For now, Pickens will have bragging rights over fellow Hoover product Humphrey with his 41-yard game-winner.
