🏈 Joy Taylor of FS1 thinks people need to relax and give Mike Tomlin a pass for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ struggles. If the Steelers end up having a losing season this year, it will be Tomlin’s first in 17 years as Pittsburgh’s head coach.

Ben Roethlisberger was at Pitt’s women’s volleyball Elite Eight game against Louisville on Saturday night. Pitt reversed a sweep and beat Louisville, 3-2, to advance to the semifinals. The Panthers will face Nebraska in the Final Four. Roethlisberger was also at Pitt’s game against USC last Saturday.

 

🎥 Saturday marked the 16th anniversary of the Anthony Smith guarantee game against the New England Patriots. Smith, the former safety for the Steelers, guaranteed in an interview during the week that Pittsburgh would beat the undefeated Patriots. New England went on to destroy the Steelers, 34-13, and they specifically targeted Smith on a number of big plays. Tom Brady completed 32 of 46 passes (69.5%) for 399 yards with four touchdowns, no interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 125.2.

Brady beat Smith on two of his four touchdown passes, a 63-yarder to Randy Moss and a 56-yarder to Jabar Gaffney. Bill Belichick said after the game, “We’ve played against a lot better safetys than him.”

🎂 Happy Birthday to former Steelers outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo, born on December 10, 1992 in Tampa Bay, Florida. Chickillo was drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round out of Miami in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played five seasons in Pittsburgh, mostly as a special teams contributor. Chickillo recorded 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for losses, 15 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three passes defended in Pittsburgh.
