UNITY TWP., Pa. — On Wednesday, Darnell Washington and George Pickens turned Steelers training camp into a freakshow with some great one-handed catches. Washington’s, in particular, had everyone a little stunned just by how easy he made it look right off the rip.

The wide receivers, like George Pickens, stood out and went to work on Friday. They worked with Kenny Pickett on some routes during a portion of practice. The team will aim to take their passing game to the next level after a season where they struggled to create explosive plays.

Matt Canada’s offense will be under the microscope after multiple additions, including in the pass catchers room and on the offensive line. With Pickett heading into his second season as a potential breakout candidate, it seems to be a year where it is put up or shut up time for the Steelers’ offense under the guidance of Canada. With Mike Tomlin expecting the team to start fast, that becomes even more paramount.

Meanwhile, additions such as Allen Robinson II and the returning Calvin Austin III are looking to gather their feet as the week continues to go onward. They will be key pieces in making sure the offense does take that next step along with a potential bounce-back season from Diontae Johnson.

Washington joins a group of tight ends that are trying to make the Steelers’ offense an identity built off the running game. With Pat Freiermuth, Zach Gentry, Connor Heyward, and Rodney Williams in addition to the talented rookie, it is a deep group that tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts is excited about. Moreover, he is hoping that he can work mismatches into the offense with his impressive group this year.
