Steelers Sights and Sounds: George Pickens Shows Off

Steelers WR George Pickens

UNITY TWP., Pa — The Pittsburgh Steelers took the practice field on Friday for the second straight day at training camp and this time, it was the wide receivers who were my focus. Specifically, George Pickens as he enters his second year in the NFL and gets ready to look and take a leap.

The wide receivers, like George Pickens, stood out and went to work on Friday. They worked with Kenny Pickett on some routes during a portion of practice. The team will aim to take their passing game to the next level after a season where they struggled to create explosive plays.

Matt Canada’s offense will be under the microscope after multiple additions, including in the pass catchers room and on the offensive line. With Pickett heading into his second season as a potential breakout candidate, it seems to be a year where it is put up or shut up time for the Steelers offense under the guidance of Canada. With Mike Tomlin expecting the team to start fast, that becomes even more paramount.

Meanwhile, additions such as Allen Robinson II and the returning Calvin Austin III are looking to gather their feet as the week continues go onward. They will be key pieces in making sure the offense does take that next step along with a potential bounce-back season from Diontae Johnson.
