Steelers draft QB Michael Penix Jr.

The Steelers’ quarterback situation looms, but a target puts on a showcase in the College Football Playoff while another declares.

Washington quarterback Michael Penix blazed the Texas defense en route to a 37-31 victory in the Sugar Bowl, putting the Huskies in the National Championship. He completed 28 of 36 attempts for 430 yards and two touchdowns against them, showing off his best traits. Penix has an identity as a guy who can run a little hot and cold at times, but there is no doubt he was on in this game.

His vertical passing ability stuck out as he made tight window throws downfield all game. The most impressive part of his game? His pocket movement. Penix’s calm movements allowed him to efficiently distribute the ball to his excellent playmakers. It could easily boost his draft stock sharply, though some questionable medicals will arise.

Washington State quarterback Cam Ward will enter the 2024 NFL Draft. After an extended process in the transfer portal, Ward did not immediately sign with an agent, meaning that going back to school is still a possibility. But for now, the prolific passer is heading to the NFL Draft waters. His draft stock is likely around the late day two area, but that could rise with his impressive physical tools. He is a name to watch for the Steelers draft needs.

Connor Livesay of the 33rd Football Team has the Steelers landing Alabama offensive tackle JC Lathan in his new mock draft.

” 2023 first-round pick Broderick Jones has been a success for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but moving him back to his natural position at left tackle and finding the right tackle of the future would be a massive win for Pittsburgh,” Livesay wrote. “JC Latham was a crucial factor in Alabama’s offensive success in 2023, and his ability to dominate as a run blocker and keep rushers away from the pocket will have him coveted by all teams looking for right tackle help.”
