Steelers Top Brass Skips Shedeur Sanders Colorado Pro Day

The Pittsburgh Steelers did not send their top brass to the final full-team pro day of the 2025 cycle on Friday, opting not to attend the Colorado pro day of first-round quarterback Shedeur Sanders with either general manger Omar Khan or head coach Mike Tomlin, team sources told Steelers Now.

All 32 teams were reportedly in attendance at the event in some capacity, but the Steelers top brass skipping the showcase shows either a lack of interest in drafting Sanders, or a lack of faith in the team’s ability to land him.

Sanders is currently the No. 4 player on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, and while there have been persistent rumors about him potentially falling in the first round, it doesn’t seem that the Steelers are taking those seriously.

The team also doesn’t appear to be in much of a position to trade up, having already sent their second-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for wide receiver DK Metcalf. In fact, they’re probably more likely to trade down than they are to trade up.

Sanders isn’t the only draw at Colorado’s pro day, but is probably the most likely fit for the Steelers. Two-star Travis Hunter certainly won’t fall out of the top five. After that, receivers Jimmy Horn Jr., LaJohntay Wester and Will Sheppard and safety Shilo Sanders are all projected as late day three picks or undrafted free agents.

The Steelers do have needs at wide receiver and safety, so they certainly could be interested in that pack of prospects, having already scouted the group at the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl back in January. But day three picks don’t rate sending out the head coach and general manager, most of the time.

Tomlin and Khan will close the 2025 NFL Draft pro day cycle having visited six schools: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Texas, Ohio State and Notre Dame. The team also sent heavy contingents, including assistant general manager Andy Weidl and/or coordinators to Ole Miss and Michigan.
