Video Breakdown: Joey Porter Jr. Impressive in Steelers Starting Debut

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr.

Over the first half of his rookie season, Joey Porter Jr. has seen his playing time increase steadily and finally earned his first official start against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Even with an increase in responsibilities, the second-round pick showed out in front of the home crowd. He was often matched up against the Jags number one target in Calvin Ridley and put some dominant reps on display.

Steelers Now analyst Derrick Bell broke down his starting debut, detailing how Joey Porter Jr. was so successful in this matchup, particularly against the Jags star receiver. While his tape was pretty fantastic overall, there are still a couple of things that he’ll need to clean up to become more consistent and reach his near-limitless potential. Porter’s size, length and physicality offer Pittsburgh more flexibility on the back end, allowing them to be more aggressive against more talented offensive attacks.

Porter’s starting gig is his for the foreseeable future and his development will be extremely crucial for the franchise. If the early returns are any indication, he’s going to be more than fine on the boundary.

Of course, make sure to subscribe to Derrick’s channel for more video breakdowns moving forward.
