The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Las Vegas Raiders in their home opener at Heinz Field in Week 2, Steelers Now has confirmed. Andrew Filliponi of 93.7 The Fan first reported the scheduling of the game.
The matchup will mark the first meeting between the two historic franchises since the Raiders moved to Las Vegas. The Steelers last played the Raiders in Oakland in 2018, 24-21 loss. Pittsburgh has lost three of its last four in the series, and trails the all-time series 13-16-0.
This marks the tenth time that the Steelers’ home opener will fall on Week 2 and it is also happening for the second-straight season. Pittsburgh’s 2020 home opener was against the Denver Broncos, a 26-21 victory.
Pittsburgh opens the season visiting the Buffalo Bills. Las Vegas hosts the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.
Led by head coach Jon Gruden, the Raiders’ offensive boasts quarterback Derek Carr, promising running back Josh Jacobs and star tight end Darren Waller. Carr passed for a career-high 4,103 yards in 2020, while also tossing 27 touchdowns with nine interceptions. Waller paced Las Vegas with 107 receptions for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns last season, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.
