Steelers Sights and Sounds: Matt Canada Gets Jet Sweep Going

UNITY TWP., Pa — Matt Canada has the jet sweep going in motion. On Tuesday, the quarterbacks and other skill players worked on the jet sweep timing at the mesh point in order to get it down to a science. One of the signature plays of the Matt Canada scheme, it is imperative that those jet sweeps are worked to perfection. The team ran multiple jet sweeps and pop passes during the team periods as well.

Throughout the season, the jet sweep was lambasted as a play, but the wide receivers did have the highest yards per carry on the team. Canada did overuse it or use it at bad times, but it overall worked to the way the scheme asked, and that is mostly all the team could ask for at this juncture.

Matt Canada’s offense will be under the microscope after multiple additions, including in the pass catchers room and on the offensive line. With Pickett heading into his second season as a potential breakout candidate, it seems to be a year where it is put up or shut up time for the Steelers offense under the guidance of Canada. With Mike Tomlin expecting the team to start fast, that becomes even more paramount.

Meanwhile, additions such as Allen Robinson II and the returning Calvin Austin III are looking to gather their feet as the week continues go onward. They will be key pieces in making sure the offense does take that next step along with a potential bounce-back season from Diontae Johnson.
